Firstly, I want to start off by saying, writing this on a saturday night after a few beers and Js is tough. I was literally about to go to sleep when I realised I still have to write today's essay.

I recently read this quote in David Perell's newsletter where he says “When it comes to creating your environment, assume you have free will. When it comes to living in it, assume you have no free will.”

This struck a chord with me and I realised it's an amazing way to create habits. Like when it comes to me designing my environment, I can choose who to spend time with and what actvities or work to focus on but when I am living in the environment, I have to assume no free will and just become like people around me. It's like a glass of cold water which warms up when in room temperature.

I had free will in choosing to be part of the writing group and deciding to start writing everyday but I assume I have no free will and I have to write everyday no matter what. It's tough to push yourself everyday instead it's better to use your free will to create environments where you can accomplish your goals just because of your surroundings.
